PROTOCOL OFFICER'S AND EVENT PLANNERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (POEPAN)

POEPAN is an Association of Protocol Professionals consisting Civil Servant Public Servant from Federal, State, Local Government and all Government related agencies of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Founded through an online WhatsApp and physical meetings by Prince Abubakar Zakari, Protocol Officer from the National Assembly on 30th July, 2017.

Having incorporated the Association with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC),it’s Certificate was formally recieved and presented to the member on 13th day of June,2018.

Protocol Officers in History

Ptah Hotep wrote one of the earliest etiquette texts. This 110-year-old “First Minister” or Vizier wrote the “Instruction of Ptahhotep” for his son, to ensure that he would have the necessary wisdom to carry out his duties. Before Ptah Hotep’s time and throughout the ages, protocol officials have kept the peace, preserved social order, prevented famine and assured the fair distribution of goods and services.

What is the Point of Protocol?

Protocol is the art of combining good manners and common sense to make effective communication possible. Every debutante ball, Knights of Columbus All Saints Day memorial service, college graduation ceremony, State dinner, inauguration, coronation or State funeral requires the use of a protocol. Think of protocol as good manners on steroids, with gentle but insistent enforcement in the background. Without protocol officers, manners would go out the window and rudeness become a virtue.

Best Practices

Protocol officers must know how to make everyone feel welcome and respected. They take the time to ask about the likes, dislikes, preferences and customs of each person who may attend a milestone event. Protocol officers do their best to accommodate everyone within reason. They make every effort to minimize or eliminate any opportunity for embarrassment or offense.
Protocol officers must model correct behavior themselves.
